Roleplaying Advice
- When writing, try to avoid using the same word over and over again. Best example would be 'said'... try to use one of the almost endless variations, like: growled, whispered, cried, sighed, stated.. as you see, all of those words also carry an emotion, so using the right word to describe your characters mood makes a post much more intense and fun to read. If you want, you don't even have to describe how you speak such as: Bob lets out a sigh before grinning "<instert here>.". Just say what your character does before speaking and then continue.
- Layout: A very handy advice for some people out there is that there is indeed a button on the keyboard which helps seperating words. It´s a long, blank bar at the bottom. A definite Must is using the space bar after an exclamation mark, question mark, or however you want to end a sentence... makes it far more easier to read a post, besides, not doing this will make it seem as if the writer either spent no time and effort on it or simply lacks basic knowledge of the english grammar and language. Don't forget the Enter Key as well, and keep the paragraphs separate. These are when a shift in ideas approach.. and not just randomly put in.
- Using different colors or styles for words and thoughts. For example, I usually mark my characters thoughts as thoughts by writing them in Italic letters. For the speech of the character, some prefer using an unique color for making it clear when he speaks. However, if you decide to do that, stick with that specific color, or you´ll confuse the others. And just to not confuse others with your style of speech, follow the RP Rules.
- Maybe the most important advice: Give the other person something he can work with. For example, your character sees a person walking down a road, and decides to say hello for some reason, simply writing "He walked up to him and said 'Hello!'" is no good. How should the other one respond to that... adding more things into the description, like describing your characters stance, his expression(angry, surprised or happy), will help your rp partner. It still isn´t the best way to start an rp, but with the emotions, it´s easier to respond...
